The Homewood H.I.V.E. is excited to host its first Open Ears and Beers listening session on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Good People Brewing Company, 114 14th Street, S, Birmingham, AL 35233. The event brings together people and organizations from all sides of the aisle to participate in a casual and respectful conversation. The evening is free and open to all.
H.I.V.E. member Leigh Spencer developed the idea for Open Ears and Beers after recently moving to Birmingham from Los Angeles. “Coming from the West LA bubble I thought I would have more opportunity to talk to people with different views,” says Spencer. “But I found out I needed to work on it. It seems the whole country needs to.”
Open Ears and Beers will be a meet and greet with broad and non-confrontational questions announced throughout the evening for discussion. The evening will emphasize respect, listening and exploring a way to talk about differences without debate or conflict.
“We’ve been meeting with various groups this year throughout the city and on all sides of the issues,” says Kristin Rezek, H.I.V.E. co-founder. “The number one takeaway we hear is that we all need to be talking and listening to each other to truly bring about change and goodness. Our hope is that this evening will be the first of many events and enhanced discussion throughout the city.”
Join the H.I.V.E. before the event from 5:30-6:00 p.m. as local yoga instructor Mollie Erickson leads a mind clearing, soul energizing standing yoga flow. Breathe in and out, connecting with yourself, your neighbor and your community.
